Individual Alexander Technique Sessions

Change isn’t hard, it just needs a new approach.

I offer sessions and programmes refined to suit your personal needs.  There are various levels from beginner to intermediate to experienced.

The most effective way to make significant changes and see the most benefits, is a programme of commitment to active participation in a set of six 45-minute sessions, that we book in quick succession to keep momentum and embed your learning and progress.

I also offer standalone refresher sessions for those who have had Alexander Technique lessons before and want to be reminded of, and build upon, work they have previously done.

Your 3-step Programme

Step 1: Recognise

I will help you to gain a deeper level of awareness of your posture, your movement and the connection between mind and body. During this process, you may become aware of habits that you were unaware of, that may be causing pain or discomfort.

Step 2: Build

Next, we discover the components to re-educate your neuromuscular system, restoring balance and ease, and building strength. A significant part of this process focuses on changing thinking patterns rather than physical exercises.

Step 3: Apply

Finally, we concentrate on how you can embrace these practices into your everyday life to help to break the pain cycle, transform your movement and encourage great posture.

Our sessions together will be engaging and stimulating, examining everyday habits and being more aware of how we’re doing them.

It’s definitely not a case of going through monotonous exercises that are hard to stay focused on.

If there are activities you’re struggling with, like storing things away on high shelves, putting your shoes on or even singing, I’ll make sure that working on these areas is fun and practical whilst getting results.

How the Private Sessions work

  • Frequency of sessions

From experience, I’ve found that one-off sessions don’t give us the chance to correct bad habits and embed good habits for long-term gain.

I recommend that we meet at least once a week, with your six sessions taking place over a maximum of two months.

  • What is involved

We start with an initial assessment session, to give me the opportunity to get a clear picture of your situation, and to identify any relevant medical issues or health conditions.

Everyone learns differently, so I tailor my approach to suit your level and make sure you get the most out of every session.

I also provide you with supporting material to take away and refer to as you enhance your learning, at no extra cost.

  • Your Investment

£270 for one person’s programme of six 45-minute sessions

or

£360 for two people to enjoy a programme of six 1-hour sessions together.

Sometimes people like to share the experience, learn from each other, discussion their observations afterwards and motivate each other to put the work in.

Refresher sessions cost £50 for one person’s 45-minute session, or £65 for two people sharing a 1-hour session.

  • What you will need

Loose, comfortable clothing is ideal for you to wear for all your sessions.

  • Cancellation Policy

100% of the session fee will be payable if cancelled within at least 24 hours of the session’s start time.

What my clients say

"I’ve been learning the Alexander Technique with Tanya for a year – and it is not an exaggeration to say that it has completely changed my life. I’m happier, calmer, and feel like I have a totally new relationship with my body... I used to suffer from extreme pain in my left shoulder, but over the past year, this has improved so much. I have tried many different things over the past decade to help but nothing seems to have got to the root of the problem in the way that I believe the Alexander Technique has. I can now enjoy playing my guitar or walking – both activities that used to really bring on the shoulder pain – without exacerbating the condition."

Rosie

"You’ve helped me believe that the Alexander Technique can help me more than I thought.

Not only was the pain relieved but I felt more energetic than I’ve felt for ages walking back up the hill and then did a tour of the park..."

Andrew

"Due to moving house I only had a few Alexander Technique lessons with Tanya, but even in those lessons I learnt a great deal about how my body works and about my posture. Tanya really personalised the lessons for me, taking in account my profession and everyday challenges such as lifting and carrying heavy bags with photographic equipment or keeping my balance and not straining my neck while using my “monster” 70-200mm lens. As a result, I am now more aware of my posture when I’m photographing or when I’m at my desk for hours on end. I don’t slouch as much and I have less back pains. I’d recommend Tanya to everyone in a heartbeat!"
